Sydney Wedding DJ Costs

How much a wedding DJ really costs in Sydney in 2026 - what's included at each tier, what pushes the price up, and how to book smart.

The short answer

In 2026, most Sydney wedding DJs sit between $1,600 and $3,500 for a full reception with quality sound and warm dancefloor lighting. Below $1,200 you're usually booking a hobbyist with entry-level gear; above $4,000 you're paying for full production, multiple staff, or a well-known headline act.

Sydney wedding DJ price bands

Budget tier

$900 - $1,400

4-5 hours reception coverage, basic controller and speakers, minimal lighting. Best for small weddings under 60 guests at simple venues.

Mid tier most common

$1,600 - $2,600

Ceremony + canapés + reception coverage, pro sound for 80-150 guests, warm dancefloor lighting, MC-lite handovers. Where most Sydney weddings land.

Premium / production

$2,800 - $6,000+

Large venues, 150+ guests, layered lighting design, subs, secondary rig for ceremony at a different location, tech operator on site.

What actually moves the price

Hours of coverage

A 4-hour reception is very different from a 9-hour ceremony-to-last-song booking. Every extra hour typically adds $150-$250 in Sydney.

Sound and lighting scale

80 guests in a warm-lit garden need a fraction of the rig 200 guests need on a rooftop with wind and hard surfaces. Subs, extra tops, uplighting and dancefloor washes all sit on top of the base fee.

Venue and location

CBD, Bondi, Manly and Northern Beaches venues are the baseline. South Coast, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and Hunter Valley add travel and often an overnight - budget an extra $300-$800 depending on distance.

Date and season

October to April Saturdays are peak. Sunday, Friday and off-season weddings often unlock 10-20% off the same package.

MC and coordination

A pure DJ read your room; a DJ/MC also handles announcements, cake cutting, speeches. Full MC service usually adds $250-$500.

What to check before you book

  • · Do they have a backup rig on the day (spare controller, spare speaker)?
  • · Do they carry public liability insurance - most Sydney venues require $10-20M cover.
  • · Can you hear a live set or a recent mix from an event similar to yours?
  • · How is the ceremony audio handled - lapel mic, extra speaker, secondary rig?
  • · What's the deposit, cancellation policy, and are travel fees itemised?
